The Liberal Democrats are delighted to announce that Rabina Khan, previously PPC for Kensington and European parliamentary candidate, has been appointed as the new Communities Special Advisor to their Leader in the House of Lords, Lord Newby.
The Party's Leader Jo Swinson is committed to leading a party that represents the diversity of British society, encompassing all those who reject the populist forces seeking to divide us.
Rabina has devoted her time and expertise to the Party in recent months, both campaigning on the doorstep and developing policy behind the scenes, and she looks forward to providing support to Lord Newby and the parliamentary party.
Commenting on the appointment of Rabina to his team, Lord Newby said: “Rabina is a tremendous asset to the Party. She has an excellent track record of working in, and supporting those within, our diverse communities. I want this knowledge and track record to help develop the Party at the national level. The Liberal Democrats have always put local people first, and we must make sure that we apply this principle to every community across the country."
Leader of the Liberal Democrats Jo Swinson said: "I am greatly looking forward to having Rabina helping the parliamentary party, and learning from her on a regular basis. She will bring so much to the Liberal Democrats. Rabina has such a unique understanding of campaigning and achieving results on the ground, bringing significant benefits to local areas, and improving the lives of people. We can't wait for her to get started.”
Rabina Khan said: It’s with great sadness that I leave the Kensington team, but I’m delighted to hand over the reins to Sam Gyimah MP. I’ll be actively campaigning for Sam and feel confident that we can turn Kensington into a LibDem seat after coming first here in the European Elections.
“Rabina is a formidable campaigner with a can-do attitude for the communities that she represents,” commented Roderick J Lynch, Chair, LibDem Campaign for Race Equality. “The Party is taking diversity seriously, to have Rabina Khan at the heart of the push is a step in the right direction. Today is a momentous day for all concerned, I’m proud to see a Rabina Khan, working so close to the seat of power.”
